As September (and autumn! and pumpkin spice! and cozy sweaters!) comes upon us, it's the perfect time to refresh your morning routine. Autumn for me always signifies the start of the school year, and what better time to get more prepared, organized, and have a great start to your day?
This post is for you if:
You're trying to start a morning routine, but don't know where to begin
Even if you wake up early, your mornings always feel wasted by scrolling or procrastinating
You already have a morning routine, but you feel like you're in a rut
You love your morning routine but are always looking for ways to ✨spice it up✨
"Or do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit within you, whom you have from God? You are not your own, for you were bought with a price. So glorify God in your body." - 1 Corinthians 6:19-20
Spend time in prayer. This can look like:
Listening to a Christian meditation
Praying out loud
Sitting in contemplative silence
Listing the characteristics of God
Gratitude & thanksgiving
Taking a prayer walk
Read the Bible. Basic - but very necessary!
Scripture memorization - you could try to memorize one verse a week
Give audio Bibles a chance - I love the Dwell app for this
Find a reading plan on YouVersion or elsewhere that has more than a single verse a day accompanied by a long devotional - there's nothing wrong with that, but God's word is more important than anyone else's!
Read through the Psalms and Proverbs
Ask yourself the three R's: what is this passage teaching me to repent from, to rejoice about, and to request God for?
Fasting. This doesn't have to be from food - you can fast from caffeine, technology, secular music, etc.
Journaling. Here are some prompts!
What God has done in your life recently
What God has been saying to you, through other people, Scriptures that keep popping up in your life, or in prayer
Things you're worried about (then give these to God in prayer!)
What you're excited for
What areas of your life do you want to change?
What's your dream life? Does it match God's will for you?
Health & Fitness Habits
Exercise. Try these at-home workout channels on YouTube! I'm not sponsored by any of them; I just love doing their workouts, which are anywhere from 20 to 45 minutes long.
Create a skincare routine. This can be as basic as the following steps
Eat breakfast, it's the most important meal of the day!
oatmeal with honey
pb & banana toast
I hope you found at least one new habit to cultivate in your morning routine!
